Roy was born during July 1976 and was therefore
boiled before he was squeezed out which explains
his penchant for talking inane drivel most of
the time. He hails from a place called Hemel
Hempstead in Hertfordshire (which sounds considerably
posher than it actually is!) but he and his family
moved to Christchurch, in Dorset, on the south
coast of England, in 1989.
As far as education goes, he is a scientist
through and through, he achieved 13 GCSE's, 3
'A' Levels, an 'S' Level and 2 years of Degree
level Chemistry at Plymouth University. At the
same time, he entertained his peers when he was
elected by the Student Body to the posts of Social
Secretary at College and Entertainments Officer
at University. It was the Uni post that really
made him the stage entertainer he is today. Roy
also spent 2 years as the General Manager of
a very popular Cocktail Bar, whilst in Plymouth,
as well as being a Disc Jockey in some of the
biggest clubs in the city.
Having decided enough was enough on land, he
applied for a job as a DJ on a 5 star mini cruise
ferry only to discover when he arrived that he
was to be the Assistant Cruise Director. A surprise,
sure enough, but it didn’t phase, him so
be blagged the contract and did such a great
job it put him in good stead because this was
the first of many top ranking positions offered
to him on the open sea's. In this time he became
an expert in comic timing, designing game shows
and quizzes, in fact anything to show off his
vast repository of knowledge.
He has entertained tens of thousands of people
in this happy time and made lots of friends,
both passengers and colleagues. The time came,
however, to spend some time shore side after
5 years at sea. Having spent a little time in
the UK, he received an invitation to visit Tenerife
from he best friends whom he had met on board
his last ship. He fell in love with the Canary
Islands as soon as he landed.
A few years of working in various hotels as an
Entertainments Manager for Viana Shows, and learning
new and perfecting an impressive repertoire of
magic, has earned him a reputation in Tenerife,
resulting in requests for personal appearances
in restaurants and private parties. All his hard
work has finally got him to where he truly feels
at home, broadcasting on the radio. This ‘dream
job’ is really the culmination of all the
skills learned over the years, and he feels privileged
to be part of the Power FM team here in the Canary
Islands.
“Who wrote that blurb, they need a pay
rise! I’m really lucky to have the opportunity
to work with some incredibly talented people
on a radio station with such a huge following,
not just in the Canary Islands but also all around
the world. I have had a charmed life, so far
as my career is concerned, but I have to say
that this is the first job I have had that I
always look forward to coming in for. It’s
especially good for me as I can continue to do
something I enjoy out of the public view, as
I am actually as ugly as sin.”
